The 1973 women’s health sourcebook Our Bodies, Ourselves stems from a 1969 course created in Boston by a group of women (now known as the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective).
As their course about women and their bodies evolved, so did the title.
Originally titled Women and their Bodies, it became the more inclusive Women and Our Bodies, and finally Our Bodies, Ourselves.
The book was revised in 1984 and 1992.

After receiving an inheritance upon the death of her brother, a wealthy stockbroker, she was advised by a clergyman to use the money to begin an institution of higher education for women. Plans were drawn up in 1868, and in 1871, Smith College was founded.
