Emily Torchia, an MGM publicist in the Culver City office, came up with the slogan “Gable’s Back and Garson’s Got Him”.
The slogan referred to Adventure (1945), Clark Gable’s first movie after his discharge from the army during World War II.
The movie also starred Greer Gar-son. Torchia won a bonus of $250 for the slogan.
Ava Gardner appeared with the Bowery Boys in Ghosts on the Loose (1943), which also starred Bela Lugosi, Leo Gorcey, and Huntz Hall. Gardner played Huntz Hall’s sister.
Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall appeared in five movies. To Have and Have Not (1944); The Big Sleep (1946); Dark Passage (1947); Key Largo (1948); and Two Guys from Milwaukee (1946), in which they played themselves in an unbilled appearance.
The Mysterious Dr. Fu Manchu (1929), starring Warner Oland, was the first Fu Manchu movie made as a sound feature.
Stewart became an Air Force colonel, Gable an Air Force major during World War II.
House of Usher (1960; aka The Fall of the House of Usher). Like most of the films in the series, which also included The Masque of the Red Death (1964) and The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), it starred Vincent Price.
